About the Client

Our client is a leading provider of smart metering solutions serving approximately 800 customers through their infrastructure. The company is experiencing rapid growth with revenue projected to scale from €3M to €55M by 2030. Currently operating entirely on-premises infrastructure in a communication datacenter, they face critical scalability and cost challenges that require immediate modernization.

Key Business Challenges:

• Hosting costs consuming 20% of software & services revenue (industry standard: 8-12%)
• Monolithic architecture preventing efficient scaling and modern deployment practices
• Single-tenant model requiring separate infrastructure instances for each customer
• Manual scaling processes leading to inconsistent configurations
• Deployment cycles of 6-8 weeks with frequent delays and rollbacks

Project details

The Cloudification Project is a transformational initiative to migrate and re-architect the client's entire infrastructure to the AWS cloud.

Project Scope:

• Complete migration from on-premises to AWS cloud infrastructure
• Transformation from monolithic to service-oriented architecture (SOA)
• Implementation of multi-tenant architecture replacing single-tenant model
• Integration with AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP)
• Establishment of CI/CD practices and cloud-native DevOps

Your Team

You'll be joining a collaborative team structure designed to balance external expertise with internal knowledge transfer.

Working Relationship:

• Joint interviews and decision-making for team scaling
• Knowledge transfer focus to build internal cloud capabilities
• Collaboration with Analytics & Services unit (one year ahead in cloud thinking)

Responsibilities

• Architectural Design & Strategy
• Define target AWS cloud architecture for multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure
• Design migration strategy from monolithic to service-oriented architecture
• Establish optimal AWS managed services configuration
• Create transformation roadmap from current on-premises setup
• Determine containerized vs. cloud-native implementation approach
• Plan service transition sequencing for 800+ customer instances
• Technical Leadership & Implementation
• Guide development team work against defined architecture standards
• Oversee multi-tenant architecture design and implementation
• Establish Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform
• Design CI/CD pipeline architecture to replace 6-8 week deployment cycles
• Plan monitoring and observability solutions for multi-tenant environment
• Integrate with AWS MAP program requirements and timelines
• Stakeholder Collaboration & Alignment
• Achieve architectural alignment between two business units
• Collaborate with internal architects in mentoring capacity
• Work with three Product Owners as primary project liaison points
• Document architectural decisions and implementation guidelines
• Facilitate knowledge transfer to internal teams with limited cloud experience
• Support backlog structuring for cloudification initiatives
• Project & Team Management
• Provide technical leadership for growing development team
• Support Product Owner in sprint planning and backlog prioritization
• Establish development standards and best practices
• Plan team scaling strategy and skill requirements
• Coordinate with internal DevOps teams on integration points

Skills

Essential Qualifications

• 10+ years enterprise architecture experience with cloud transformation focus
• Extensive AWS architecture experience including managed services
• Proven track record with large-scale cloud migrations (lift-and-shift to re-architecting)
• Strong Java ecosystem knowledge and enterprise application architecture
• Multi-tenant SaaS architecture design and implementation experience
• Experience decomposing monolithic applications into service-oriented architectures
• Infrastructure as Code expertise (Terraform preferred)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipeline design and DevOps practices
