Role Overview
The CFO will lead the financial strategy of the company operating in the international transport and logistics sector. The role includes responsibility over financial planning, budgets, controlling, reporting, contract management, audits and compliance, risk management, and ensuring financial visibility and profitability across routes, customers, and business units.
The CFO is part of the top management team and collaborates closely with the Administrator, COO, Operations, and Commercial Departments to support decisions on growth, pricing, route profitability, fleet investments, and operational performance.
Location: Cluj-Napoca, Hybrid
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Planning
Develop and implement financial and tax strategies aligned with the transport business model and market dynamics.
Participate in defining the Strategic Plan, investment strategies (fleet, depots, warehouses), and business expansion.
Prepare the annual budget in coordination with local and group management.
Monitor fuel, fleet, maintenance costs, and evaluate profitability by route, customer, and service.
Ensure cashflow management in accordance with operational needs (fuel cards, tolls, leasing, subcontractors).
Identify financial optimization and
- reduction opportunities (contract renegotiations, credit policies, leasing terms, insurance).
2. Accounting & Reporting
Prepare and review financial statements and reports in compliance with IFRS and Romanian accounting standards.
Manage group reporting processes, intercompany transactions, and reconciliation with partner entities abroad.
Ensure compliance with
- specific legal and fiscal requirements (international VAT, IC/ICS, Intrastat,
- border contracts).
Coordinate monthly and quarterly closing, controlling activities, and financial performance analysis.
3. Financial Department Management
Lead and develop the Accounting, Controlling, and Financial Administration teams.
Implement and optimize internal processes and financial systems (ERP, TMS, BI).
Oversee cash flow, working capital, credit risk, leasing & loans, insurance and claims management.
Maintain and develop relationships with financial partners (banks, leasing companies, insurers).
4. Analysis, Reporting & Performance
Prepare monthly performance dashboards and management reports (Excel, Power BI, ERP reporting).
Monitor operational KPIs and OKRs: route profitability, fuel efficiency, fleet utilization, cost per km, subcontractor costs,
- time delivery.
Lead performance review meetings with operational and commercial departments.
Develop financial models to support pricing, tendering processes, fleet investment decisions, and business forecasting.
5. Audit, Compliance & Risk Management
Organize and oversee internal and external audits.
Ensure compliance with national and international regulations, including tax and
- related requirements.
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks (cashflow, FX exposure, credit control, accident costs).
Ensure continuous improvement of internal controls and quality standards (ISO, internal policies).
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or similar (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, ideally in transport, logistics, automotive, manufacturing, or similar industries.
Experience in IFRS, Romanian accounting standards, consolidation, and group reporting.
Strong expertise in budget planning, controlling, and cashflow management.
Advanced Excel; experience with BI tools (Power BI) and ERP/TMS systems.
Business-level English, written and spoken; additional foreign language is a plus.
Proven leadership and process improvement experience.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
